Lesson 15: Thì quá khứ đơn

Thì quá khứ đơn là chủ điểm ngữ pháp quan trọng mà chúng ta sẽ tiếp tục tìm hiểu và nghiên cứu trong chuỗi bài học ngữ pháp tiếng Anh cần thiết. Đây là một trong những thì được sử dụng nhiều nhất trong tiếng Anh, chính vì vậy nhất định các em phải nắm vững hiểu về công thức, cách sử dụng, dấu hiệu nhận biết … của thì quá khứ đơn chuẩn xác.

1.Lý thuyết

1.1 Cách dùng

1.1.1: Diễn tả một hành động đã kết thúc trong quá khứ và có thời gian xác định cụ thể.

Dấu hiệu để xác định thời gian là các trạng từ chỉ thời gian sau đây:

– Last + thời gian (week, month, year, summer,)

– Khoảng thời gian (one day, two weeks, three month,) + ago

– In + thời gian trong quá khứ

Ví dụ:  She went to Paris last summer.

           I started learning English three years ago.

1.1.2. Diễn tả một hành động đã xảy ra trong một khoảng thời gian và đã hoàn tất ở quá khứ.

Các cụm từ đi cùng:

– For + khoảng thời gian (for five years,)

– From … to….

Ví dụ: He worked for this company for two years.

          I studied at this university from 2001 to 2005.

2.1.3. Diễn tả một hành động được lặp đi lặp lại hoặc xảy ra thường xuyên trong quá khứ và bây giờ không xảy ra nữa.

Các trạng từ tần suất thường sử dụng trọng trường hợp này: always, usually, often, kết hợp với các cấu trúc sau: When I was young; when I was a child; when I lived there;

VD: When I was a student, I always carried an umbrella to class.

        When she was young, she often went swimming after school.

⇒ Cách dùng này giống với cấu trúc used to.

1.1.4. Diễn tả một loạt hành động xảy ra kế tiếp nhau trong quá khứ.

VD: When I saw a spaceship, I stopped my car. She drove into the car-park, got out of the car, locked the door and walked toward the theatre.

Các từ thường sử dụng trong trường hợp này: when, while, as.

VD: When I was reading a book, my friends called me.

1.2 Cách chia động từ với thì quá khứ đơn.

•  Đối với động từ to be:

+)Khẳng định    S+was/were+C.         I was born in USA

-)Phủ định        S+  was/were not + C           The house wasn’t  destroyed

?)Nghi vấn        Was/were S+C?        Were they happy yesterday?

(QA) Học sinh tự viết dạng phủ định rút gọn của was/were not.

• Đối với động từ thường:

+)Khẳng định:   S+Ved /PI+O            They went to Sam Son last summer.

-)Phủ định   :     S+ did not+ Vo+O    They didn’t invite me to their wedding

                                                        She didn’t come my wedding

?)Nghi vấn  :      Did + S + Vo+ O?    Did they play football last week?

                                                          Does she come here last sunday?

PI: Động từ bất quy tắc cột 2.

Chú ý: P0: Dùng cho hiện tại đơn hoặc các cấu trúc của động từ nguyên mẫu

            P1: Dùng cho thì quá khứ

            P2: Dùng cho các thì hoàn thành, câu bị động, tính từ

1.3 Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì quá khứ đơn.

Các trạng từ chỉ thời gian trong quá khứ:

    – Yesterday

    – Last night/ last week/ last month/ last year

    – Ago: (two hours ago)

    – When (trong câu kể)

Bài 2: Chia các động từ sau ở thì quá khứ đơn hoặc quá khứ tiếp diễn:

In my last holiday, I went to Hawaii. When I 1(go)….to the beach for the first time, something wonderful happened. I 2(swim)….in the sea while my mother was sleeping in the sun. My brother was building a castle and my father 3(drink)…. some water. Suddenly I 4 (see)…..a boy on the beach. His eyes were blue like the water in the sea and his hair 5(be)….beautiful black. He was very tall and thin and his face was brown. My heart 6(beat)….fast. I 7(ask)…him for his name with a shy voice. He (tell) 8….me that his name was John. He 9 (stay)…with me the whole afternoon.
